Meet the artist

Catherine Millet

Catherine Millet is a French artist born in Lille who confirmed her artistic career in 2006. A self-taught sculptor, she initially began with painting before fully devoting herself to sculpture—a medium through which she expresses movement, narrative, and poetic imagination.

From Canvas to Sculpture: Giving Form to Imagination
Around 2010, Catherine began envisioning how the characters and imaginary worlds from her paintings could take shape in three dimensions. Following several experiments and research, she started creating sculptures composed of metal wire structures built from recovered, broken objects, often old and timeworn, such as vintage clock parts. These elements serve as poetic symbols—aesthetic mechanisms, fragments of memory, and metaphors for journeys through time.

Her figures animate these structures and tell stories. Their finesse and delicacy are achieved through multiple thin layers of wood-based mortar, carefully applied, dried, and sanded over the metal skeleton, giving each piece a sense of movement and fragility.

A Poetic and Dreamlike Universe
Catherine Millet’s sculptures explore the themes of freedom, contemplation, and wonder. Her solitary characters are often seen in surreal settings—riding improbable machines, conversing with the moon, or setting out to free birds. Whether readers, dreamers, or travelers, each figure reflects a gentle sense of independence and poetry.

Her work invites us to imagine other ways of living—lightly, playfully, and in harmony with nature and time.

Exhibitions and Recognition
Catherine Millet has received multiple awards for her sculptural work in various exhibitions. She has shown her pieces in numerous galleries across France and Belgium. Since 2018, she has been a permanent artist at Myl'ART Gallery in Lille, and since April 2022, at YES ART GALLERY in Sint-Idesbald on the Belgian coast.
